The animal comes first.
Never disturb, crowd, chase, feed, bait, restrain or provoke wildlife for a photograph. Keep an appropriate distance and respect wildlife officers, protected-area rules and local access restrictions. Do not disturb nests, dens, breeding behaviour or young animals.
Share work you have the right to share.
Submit your own photography or work covered by explicit publication permission. Confirm ownership or permission and acknowledge conservation photography ethics. Copyright remains with the rights holder; publication credit must be accurate. Do not submit AI-generated images as wildlife evidence or another photographer’s work as your own.
Keep descriptions safe and honest.
Captions should describe the photograph accurately without invented sightings, unverified accusations, personal identifying details or exact wildlife locations. Do not include coordinates, live whereabouts, sensitive nesting or breeding locations, or information that could help someone target an animal.
Only broad geographic context and an optional observation month may be published after review. Editorial inspiration is clearly labelled and must not be presented as a new community observation.
Private first. Review before publication.
During the pilot, only approved photographers may submit. JPEG and PNG files are converted into a WebP submission preview, with a maximum stored size of 2 MB and a maximum of five submissions per rolling 24 hours. Private staging storage is used while the submission awaits operator review.
A moderator must inspect the photograph, confirm permission, check species and caption information, independently re-encode an approved copy, remove metadata, and check visual location clues. The original submitted file is not directly published.
No process can guarantee that a location cannot be inferred from visual details. Operators may withhold any photograph that creates a wildlife welfare or privacy concern.
Credit, licensing and removal.
Published work carries a copyright notice and reviewed contributor credit. Making a profile public is optional; private contributors receive a neutral public credit. Any different licensing arrangement requires an explicit agreement and is outside this pilot.
Photographers can request removal of their content through their dashboard when enabled. Copyright owners and others with safety concerns should use the contact page. Do not include passwords, exact animal coordinates or unrelated personal information in an enquiry.
