Care begins with a considered response
When the wild
needs our care.
If you see an injured, trapped or threatened wild animal, prioritise safety and contact the responsible authority directly.
Pause. Stay safe. Reach the right people.
What to do first.
Give the animal space.
Keep yourself, other people and pets at a safe distance. Do not crowd, chase, feed, touch or move the animal. Do not attempt treatment or a rescue yourself.
Observe only if it is safe.
From a safe place, note what you can see, when it happened and the broad area. Take a photograph only if doing so will not disturb the animal or put anyone at risk.
Contact wildlife officers privately.
Use an official channel to describe the concern. Share detailed location information directly with responsible officers when requested. Follow their instructions.
Keep sensitive information off public feeds.
Do not post live wildlife locations, exact coordinates, identifying information about reporters, or unverified accusations. A public photograph is not a request for an official response.
A community for care.
An honest boundary.
